FOOD SAFETY CHALLENGES IN GEORGIA AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES IN THE POST-CORONAVIRUS PERIOD

Summary 

Food safety indicators are analyzed in the article, as well as food balances of the main agricultural products in Georgia are assessed. It is concluded that the problem of food security is one of the main challenges for Georgia and the problem will become even more urgent in the post-pandemic period.

Production growth trends are identified based on a dynamic analysis of local agricultural production indicators. Given the current level and future trends, it is clear that the existing parameters of agricultural production in the short term will not achieve a safe level of self-sufficiency in local products, will not solve the problem of forming an optimal structure of food balances.

The scenarios developed as a result of the events caused by the pandemic in the field of agriculture are evaluated in the paper and the priority directions of the development of the field in the post-pandemic period are proposed.
